Isaiah 54:10
10 For the mountains may depart and the hills be removed, but my steadfast love shall not depart from you, and my covenant of peace shall not be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you.
Romans 5:8
8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
For the last 15 years, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has captivated audiences with its impressive and inspiring display of movies and television shows. In one of his final scenes, Tony Stark––among the most beloved characters in the universe––is told by his young daughter Morgan, “I love you 3,000.” The number is not meant to be taken literally; it’s an exaggerated figure that emphasizes the immensity of Morgan’s love for her father and vice versa. It represents a boundless, unquantifiable, unconditional love beyond measure. Although whimsical and childlike in its expression, it’s profound in the way it conveys love that cannot be contained. Since the movie’s release, that quote’s popularity has spread, becoming a cultural phenomenon. People use it on social media, in personal relationships, and casual conversations to express affection.
Isaiah 54:10 offers a powerful reminder of the unshakable nature of God’s love and His commitment to His people no matter what challenges we may face. God’s compassion is not temporary or conditional, it’s everlasting and absolute, His peace is not something that can be taken away, it’s aboundingly infinite. Romans 5:8 further solidifies these truths in reminding us of the single greatest act Christ has done for all of humanity––paying the price of sin by death on the cross; a death He sacrificially endured while we were and are still in our sin––a death we deserved. Jesus’ death on the cross was the ultimate act of love. God’s love for us is not meant to be kept to ourselves––it’s meant to be spread. We are to live in response to His love by sharing it with others through our actions and words.
