By Brooke Fisher
Hey y’all! My name is Brooke Fisher. I am 16 years old, and I’m one of the Shine leaders at the First Free Will Baptist Church of Beaufort, NC.
Last summer, I felt God was leading me to start a Young Women Active for Christ (YWAC) group at my church. In the beginning, I was a little hesitant because I was supposed to be going on a mission trip to Saint Croix through ETEAM that summer. I thought I would be too busy to start YWAC. But as soon as I got back from the trip, God kept laying the idea on my heart. So I got up with my Ma-P and Pa-P (Grandparents and pastor of my church) and went to work to start this group.
We’ve been up and running for about three months now, meeting twice a month for dinner, fellowship, worship, games, devotion, and a project. Our girls have been helping with Operation Christmas Child and writing to shut-ins, widows, and people who need cheering up in the community.
I’m so excited to see where God leads each of us as we meet together as young women. For our next project, we hope to raise money for girls in Togo, Africa, and sponsor them so they can attend school. It is $100 per girl to sponsor, and we plan to have some fundraisers throughout this next year.
As this group moves on, please be praying we can continue to reach out to girls, grow our community of believers, and reach our goals to help others. We truly want this to be a place girls can go to escape the craziness of this world, grow their relationship with Jesus, open up, keep each other accountable, get active in the community, and further God’s kingdom.
“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” –Hebrews 10:24 (NLT)
“And let us not neglect our meeting together, as some people do, but encourage one another, especially now that the day of his return is drawing near.” Hebrews 10:25 (NLT)
For those of you who feel like God is calling you to do or start something, do it! He even says in the Bible that he will equip us with everything we need.
“…may he equip you with all you need for doing his will. May he produce in you, through the power of Jesus Christ, every good thing that is pleasing to him. All glory to him forever and ever! Amen.” –Hebrews 13:21 (NLT)
All you girls who think you’re too young… I will stop you right there! This is a lie straight from Satan himself. You are never too young. Whether you’re 16 years old like me, or still in kindergarten, God can and will use anyone!
