God Fights for Me

Did you go to Sunday School when you were a child? Did you have Bible story books in your home? Have you seen the animated movie “Prince of Egypt”? If so, you are familiar with the Old Testament story of Moses leading the Israelites out of Egypt. One of the Bible’s most dramatic stories, it has been told and retold throughout the centuries. We can only imagine what it would’ve been like to actually be there.

A huge crowd of people, fleeing for their lives after seeing scary supernatural things happening all around them and those they loved. It must’ve felt like the end of the world. Imagine the wonder as it culminated in the miraculous parting of the Red Sea so that they could walk on dry land while God held the gigantic walls of water back on either side. But then…

In Exodus 14:10 we read, “… the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly.”

What is marching after you today? Are you being pursued by doubts, shame, anxiety, bad habits, or enemies? Maybe you find yourself, like the Israelites, fearing greatly. If so, Exodus 14:13-14 is for you:

“Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

As it turned out, God and his angels went before and behind them, drowning their enemies and leading them to safety. Those terrifying enemies? “not one of them remained” according to verse 28.

Stand firm. Be silent. God fights for you.
